Kandel, Germany
Unspectacular and quiet, with about 7000 people, Kandel, in the Rhineland-Palatinate's Germersheim district, is just northwest of Karlsruhe and about 10 miles north of the French border. Light manufacturing (mainly electronics), shops for the locals, one main drag built for small cars and bicycles, and wonderfully un-touristed.
