Kane: "Who You Know" Needs To Be Pondered, Organized and Updated.

This week I'm in my native Washington, D.C. - where the proper care, feeding and upkeep of The Rolodex has been an art form for a very long time. And this post of a few days ago by Tom Kane at his Legal Marketing Blog is one of the better writings I've seen in a while on true networking basics. Who do you really know? And, to take it a couple of steps further, who do they know? And how do you manage and update all this information? You can't really market the services provided by any size law firm unless you start asking and acting on these questions.

Well, Bob, I'll try to do better next time. Take care. Dan

where the proper care, feeding and upkeep of The Rolodex . . .

Strange world, Dan. Beyond me why you got a negative comment on this.

It seemed to me that you were exposing a mental habit that few lawyers would talk about, which was a good thing--you were basically saying, "its more than ok to devote time and energy to this, its essential."

I learned the lesson today. Was at the state capital, speaking on some legislation, and made a mini-hit with several potential clients. Had never even thought of this as a source of business, etc. I was just focused on my clients who had been badly hurt in a swindle and how we needed new legislation. My rolodex and habits are not in the best condition at present, so your post was timely and gave me platform for several ideas.
