6 things you didn't want to know about me....

Long Island, New York's Tony Colleluori and Hertfordshire, England's Justin Patten each tagged me for the 5 things-you-didn't-know-about-me game. Honored that two such great bloggers would draft me. For fun, I put down 6 rather than 5 things. Five are true, one is not true. I won't clear things up without money or an offer of dinner:

1. I'm regularly and genuinely mistaken for bland-looking Anglo celebrities: Paul McCartney, Hugh Grant, Opie and/or Howdy Doody.

2. During my senior year in college I lived off-campus in a house with a bunch of student leader types just a few doors down the street from the site of the Duke Lacrosse Team "rape" incident". Several well-known writers, including Tom Wolfe, had dinner in that house before speaking engagements. Another speaker was Hunter Thompson, who never showed up at the house for dinner. Hunter was kicked off the stage half way through his "speech" that night for being too drunk and belligerent with the feisty audience. Goofy 1st amendment/writers'-right-to-be-drunk protests and media coverage followed in Durham and Chapel Hill.

3. My Mom was a fashion model in the 1940s and 1950s.

4. I'm the Charmin Baby (a painting based on a photo of me at 1).

5. I was briefly married once during my energetic years in Washington, D.C., but wasn't very good at being married. When I report this to people, they always ask if I have children, and I pause with a pained expression and then say: "No, and yes...it's hard to answer that, but let me take a stab at it..."

6. Ever since my first visit to Nantucket, a spirit or poltergeist of some kind, 17th century I think, has followed me around. And she loves to go to DC, where she is quite active in the hotels I stay in and leaves in the middle of the night to visit other guests.

I'm disturbed by some of the above, am now re-evaluating my life. I tag my Blogfather Patrick Lamb, Geeklawyer, and Hunter S. Thompson, Kentucky's Houdini of Life (why not?--see if Hunter responds...).
