Mainz, Germany

This is Johannes Gutenberg's town, and one of the oldest in the region. Rome began taking liberties with the locals here starting around 56 B.C. The Rhine at Mainz helped the energetic Julius Caesar mark a frontier. In long-settled villages near its banks, he found Celts.
