Mean Old Town: Manchester, England.

Lowry-loving
Boundry shoving
Cottonmilled...
Bomb-rocked
Unbroken...

--from Carole Houlston's "Manchester".

It's a mean old town to live in by yourself. Ah, Manchester. In America, imagine a happy, revived Flint. A Pittsburgh with passion and spine. Or Cleveland with a little glitz. Fabled, wonderfully gritty and real, this ancient second city once had an economic school of thought named after it, via England's Prime Minister Disraeli. It's got one of everything. No one here pines for London.
