To: Guys. It's November 7 and therefore way, way after Labor Day. No kahki pants. No kahki suits. No bueno. No bueno.
To "professional" guys, especially Boston, New York and D.C. professional guys, all of whom should know better.* To white collar, preppie, pseudo-preppie, New Age, neo-yuppie and Metrosexual guys. And to simplify things, to all Western Males, mainly urban, who wear ties, jackets and suits to work pretty often. There are hardly any real rules of dress or even deportment anymore--and that's just fine with us. But there are a few time-honored and (for most people) intuitive rules, commands and observances that will not and should not be changed.
Look, Wendell, it's Friday, November 7--so it's way, way after Labor Day (60+ days) and way, way, way before Memorial Day 2015 (6+ months). In case your Mom, sister, squeeze or Governess neglected to tell you, or you were stoned most of your six years at Andover, or you aspired to attend Choate but had to settle for Alpena Country Day, the rule is this: no khaki pants, no khaki suits and no khaki anything unless you're a serious late Fall duck hunter and only in Fauquier County, Virginia. Let's review, shall we? Khaki after summer is over and anytime before June 1? Bad. Stop doing it now. No bueno. No bueno.
*We gave up completely on Chicago guys and all urban German (Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, etc.) guys. On the other hand, we never have to yell at London, Paris, Brussels or Hong Kong guys.
No Bueno.
